Hereford weaner steers hit a new breed record in the physical auction market of 660c/kg in Victoria this week.
And, restocker demand continued for whiteface breeders with three-in-one Poll Hereford units selling for $2360 in the on-line auctions.
Steers weighing under 200kg returned a high of 600-660c/kg at Bairnsdale on November 11, eclipsing the previous high of 580c/kg in September 2016.
Heavier purebred steers, 200-280kg, sold to 450c/kg and 455c/kg for weaner heifers, under 200kg while Black Baldies sold to 533c/kg.
Yearling Hereford steers, under 330kg, made 593c/kg and the heifer portion to 527c/kg, Black Baldy steers to 435c/kg, while heavier purebreds at 330-400kg, sold to 409c/kg. Purebred feeder heifers, under 320kg, sold to 341c/kg.
PTIC Hereford heifers topped at $1700 at Bairnsdale, cows and calves, under two months, sold to $1520, and those with older calves, making to $1910.
Joined Poll Hereford cows, four years, with calves, from Lake Cargelligo, NSW, sold on AuctionsPlus today for $2360, while purebred cows, six to seven years, with calves, from Goulburn, NSW, sold for $2040.
Cull bulls are still bringing good money in the physical market, allowing producers to upgrade at the forthcoming 2017 autumn bull sales.
The Adams family, of Staghorn Flat, sold a Hereford bull through the Wodonga prime market and received $3104 or 262c/kg.
The bull market was strong at SELX prime cattle sale, Yass, with larger bulls making 255c/kg and up to 325c/kg for young bulls.
In the same Wodonga prime market, Isabel Webb, of Morven, sold dry Poll Hereford cows, 774kg, for $1919.
At Pakenham in Victoria this week, competition was strong from processors for all grades of cows with prices generally firm to a few cents dearer. Heavyweight bulls sold up to 9c/kg dearer.
At Naracoorte, heavyweight bulls were in short supply, ranging from 220 to 250c/kg and lightweight types to 288c/kg.
At Roma store sale, Queensland, on November 15, weaners under 220kg topped at 414c/kg and heavier steers, 350-400kg, reached 357c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topped at 346c/kg and averaged 317c/kg.
Bullocks topped at 296c/kg and heavy steers at 299c/kg at Toowoomba on Monday, while good heavy cows averaged 250c/kg.
In other Queensland results, yearling Hereford heifers, 387kg, from Bringalily, returned $1400 on AuctionsPlus today.
Hereford weaner steers, under 200kg, made to 489c/kg at the CTLX Carcoar on November 11, with heavier weaners, 200-280kg, topping at 431c/kg.
Weaner heifers, 200-280kg, sold to 331c/kg and 344c/kg for those weighing 280-330kg.
Yearling Hereford steers, 330-400kg, returned 390c/kg, PTIC cows to $1340, cows with young calves to $2400 and cows with older calves sold to $2100.
Backgrounder Hereford weaner steers, 13-14 months, 364kg, from Jerilderie, NSW, sold on AuctionsPlus for 359c/kg or $1310.
At Shepparton in Victoria this week, 500-600kg steers C3 and C4’s made from 282c/kg to 315c/kg while the 600kg plus bullocks made from 270-305c/kg.
Restockers were active at Naracoorte, SA, this week, paying from 330 to 371c/kg for steers and to 350c/kg for heifers.
Yearling heifers to the trade ranged from 290 to 340c/kg while feeder and restocker activity ranged from 300 to 345c/kg.
At Boyanup store market, WA, this week Hereford weaner steers, 330kg plus, sold to 320c/kg or $1072 while heifers, 280-330kg, made 306c/kg or $930.
Strong feeder and restocker support resulted in most yearling cattle averaging 330c/kg in Tasmania this week.
The best quality butcher cattle made 330 to 344c/kg while exporters paid 208 to 230c/kg for heavy cows.
Among the Black Baldy results for the week, unjoined heifers and their calves from NSW, made $2060 on AuctionsPlus while station mated cows, two to three years, with calves, from Gilgandra, NSW, sold for $1820.
PTIC cows, three to six years, from Culcairn, NSW, made $1430 and feeder steers, 391kg, from Walcha, NSW, returned 358c/kg or $1400.
In Hereford cross results, unweaned Angus/Hereford/Shorthorn steers, 250kg, from Warren, NSW, sold for 402c/kg or $1005, and Charolais/Hereford backgrounder heifers, 357kg, from Jerilderie, NSW, returned $1170.
